Rum and cola with a real squeeze of lime, which is the difference between a cocktail and a mixer poured over ice.

easyWhy tonight. Rum and cola with a real squeeze of lime, which is the difference between a cocktail and a mixer poured over ice.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- rum
- cola
- lime
Method
- 2 oz rum over a full glass of ice, half a lime squeezed in and the shell dropped after it, cola to top.
- The lime is not a garnish and this is not a rum and coke. The shell in the glass is what makes the difference and it is the whole reason the drink has its own name.
- Cane sugar cola if you can get it.
- One gentle lift, and drink it before the ice does anything.

What the method is trying to make happen
Sequence, correction, heat and texture, equipment workarounds, scaling, and component reuse are available with this cook sheet.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
The technique underneath this
Going wrong while you cook it? Say what it is doing and the triage will tell you what is happening, the smallest move, and the instinct to resist.

Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- rum
- The widest spirit on the shelf.
- cola
- Sweet, acidic and caramel-heavy, which is enough structure to carry a spirit on its own.
- lime
- Sharper and more floral than lemon, and it fades faster — juice it the same hour you use it.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Shares rum, lime
Dark and Stormy
Dark rum floated over ginger beer and lime so it arrives in layers. Stir it yourself at the table; that is the point.
Shares cola, lime
Amaro and cola
Fernet-and-cola logic on the amaro you have. Lime. Ice. Don't stir the life out of it.

Grog
Rum, lime, sugar and water — the original naval ration and the ancestor of every sour on this list.
Shares rum, lime
Daiquiri
Rum, lime, sugar, shaken hard and served up. It is the best value in cocktails and nothing about it should be frozen or pink.
Next
Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
