Tequila Negroni
Reposado against Campari, which is a more argumentative Negroni than the gin original and worth the argument.

easyWhy tonight. Reposado against Campari, which is a more argumentative Negroni than the gin original and worth the argument.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- tequila
- campari
- sweet vermouth
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: orange.
Method
- 1 oz reposado tequila, 1 oz Campari, 1 oz sweet vermouth, stirred over ice.
- Reposado rather than blanco — the barrel time gives it something to hold its own with.
- Grapefruit peel rather than orange. Agave and grapefruit belong together and the Campari agrees.
- Stir it properly. Agave is sharp and this needs the dilution more than a gin version does.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- tequila
- Agave, which brings a vegetal, peppery edge no other spirit has.
- campari
- Bitter, sweet and red, and it is not shy.
- sweet vermouth
- Fortified wine, which means it is perishable — an open bottle on a warm shelf is why so many home Manhattans taste dusty.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Americano
Campari, vermouth and soda over ice — the Negroni before gin was added, and about half the strength.

Negroni Sbagliato
The mistaken Negroni — prosecco where the gin should be. Lower, lighter, and easier to drink two of.

Boulevardier
A Negroni that swapped gin for whiskey, and it wants a little more whiskey than equal parts to stand up to the Campari.

Mezcal Negroni
Campari and vermouth with smoke underneath. Mezcal is assertive, so pull it back slightly from equal parts the first time.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
