Cucumber feta mint salad
If the melon is gone, cucumber still wants feta.
The sheet · 4 as a side · 8 min
easyWhy tonight. If the melon is gone, cucumber still wants feta.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- cucumber
- feta
- mint
- lime
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: olive oil.
Method
- Salt the cucumber and drain it ten minutes, then squeeze. It is mostly water and it will flood the bowl otherwise.
- Feta broken by hand into rough pieces. Cubed feta looks tidy and eats like a garnish.
- Lime rather than lemon here, and no vinegar — feta is already sharp and two acids fight.
- Mint torn at the last second, and taste before adding any salt.

What the method is trying to make happen
Sequence, correction, heat and texture, equipment workarounds, scaling, and component reuse are available with this cook sheet.
An educational plan from a curated corpus. Not a nutrition, allergen, or doneness guarantee.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
The technique underneath this
- VinaigretteDispersing fat into acid so it stays dispersed for as long as dinner takes, which is all it has to do.separates immediately · greasy · too sharp · dull
- Building a sourSpirit, citrus and sugar in a fixed geometry, then adjusted for how strong the particular bottle in front of you is.thin and sharp · cloying · spirit disappears · no foam
Going wrong while you cook it? Say what it is doing and the triage will tell you what is happening, the smallest move, and the instinct to resist.

Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- cucumber
- Water and crunch, which is a real job in a rich dish.
- feta
- Salt and tang in crumbles, so it seasons while it garnishes.
- mint
- Loud, cooling, and easily wrecked.
- lime
- Sharper and more floral than lemon, and it fades faster — juice it the same hour you use it.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.
