Method

  1. 1½ oz mezcal, ½ oz lime, ginger beer to top over ice.
  2. Less spirit than a vodka mule, because smoke and ginger heat stack rather than cancel.
  3. Build over ice, one lift, and a lime wedge.
  4. If it fights, add a bar spoon of honey syrup — sweetness is what lets smoke and ginger occupy the same glass.
