easyWhy tonight. The avocado that will not last another day. Lime immediately, onion for bite, and stop mashing while there are still lumps.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- avocado
- lime
- onion
- cilantro
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: tomato, jalapeno.
Method
- Salt and lime in the bowl first, with the finely chopped onion, and left for five minutes so the onion loses its harshness.
- Avocado in and mashed against the side — leave it lumpy. Smooth guacamole is a dip; lumpy is a dish.
- Cilantro and jalapeño folded through at the end.
- Taste for salt twice. Avocado swallows salt, and under-salted guacamole is the single most common way this goes wrong.

What the method is trying to make happen
Sequence, correction, heat and texture, equipment workarounds, scaling, and component reuse are available with this cook sheet.
An educational plan from a curated corpus. Not a nutrition, allergen, or doneness guarantee.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
The technique underneath this
Going wrong while you cook it? Say what it is doing and the triage will tell you what is happening, the smallest move, and the instinct to resist.

Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- avocado
- Fat with no cooking required — it does what butter or cream would do in a dish that has neither.
- lime
- Sharper and more floral than lemon, and it fades faster — juice it the same hour you use it.
- onion
- The base under most of this library.
- cilantro
- Citrusy and soapy in equal measure depending on who is eating it.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

If you bought for this, you can already make these
Shares avocado, lime, onion
Avocado tuna salad
Mash the avocado, fold the tuna. Lime and onion so it is not baby food. No mayo needed.
Shares cilantro, lime, onion
Corn cilantro salad
Frozen corn, cilantro, lime, onion. Feta if you have it. Char the corn if the pan is already hot. Don't boil it.
Shares onion, lime, cilantro
Pico de gallo
No cook. Salt, wait a minute, taste — the tomato has to weep.
Shares lime, onion, cilantro
Shrimp ceviche
Acid is the heat. Frozen shrimp, thawed, lime until they go opaque. Onion and chili, not a cocktail sauce.
Next
Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
