Method

  1. Tonic rather than soda, so the quinine gives it a bitterness that lemon alone cannot.
  2. Honey rather than sugar, let down with warm water first so it does not sink.
  3. Fresh lemon, and a peel expressed over the top for the oil.
  4. Bitterness is what a zero-proof drink is usually missing, and tonic is the cheapest way to buy it.
