easyWhy tonight. Gin, lemon and honey, invented to make bad Prohibition gin drinkable and still excellent with good gin.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- gin
- lemon
- honey
Method
- 2 oz gin, ¾ oz lemon, ¾ oz honey syrup. Shake hard, strain up.
- Honey syrup, not honey. Neat honey will not incorporate in a cold shaker and you will find it later.
- It was Prohibition cover — honey and lemon to hide bad gin — which means it is very forgiving of whatever bottle you own.
- Lemon peel over the top. It smells like the drink is going to be sweeter than it is.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- gin
- Botanicals over a neutral base, and every bottle draws its own map — juniper-forward gin makes a bracing drink, a softer modern one makes a floral one.
- lemon
- Acid you add at the end, not the start.
- honey
- Sweetness with a floral edge and enough body to change the texture of what it is in.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Shares gin, lemon, honey
Turmeric gin sour
A pinch of turmeric, gin, lemon, honey. Ginger if you have it. It should be gold and earthy, not a wellness shot. Don't dump a spoon of powder in.

Thyme gin sour
Clap the thyme, gin, lemon, honey. Soda if you want a Collins. The herb is pine-savory, not a garnish forest. Don't steep it into tea unless it is hot.

Gin and amaro
Gin and amaro with a squeeze of lemon. Two bottles, one glass, and a genuinely good drink in about thirty seconds.

Rosemary gin and tonic
One sprig, slapped. Don't turn the glass into a roast chicken.
