What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- gin
- amaro
- lemon
Method
- 1½ oz gin, ¾ oz amaro, ¾ oz lemon, shaken and strained up. Add a bar spoon of syrup only if the amaro is a very dry one.
- The amaro decides everything, so taste it neat first and adjust from there rather than trusting the ratio.
- Juniper and bitter herbs share a register, which is why this works with almost no other ingredients.
- Lemon peel expressed over the top.

Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- gin
- Botanicals over a neutral base, and every bottle draws its own map — juniper-forward gin makes a bracing drink, a softer modern one makes a floral one.
- amaro
- Bitter herbal liqueur, and every bottle is its own recipe.
- lemon
- Acid you add at the end, not the start.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.
