easyWhy tonight. Cranberry and pineapple over vodka. Pineapple juice foams when it is shaken, and that head is what makes it look like a cocktail.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- vodka
- cranberry juice
- pineapple
Method
- 2 oz vodka, 2 oz cranberry, 2 oz pineapple, over a full glass of ice.
- Shake the pineapple juice or it will not foam, and the foam is what makes this look like a drink rather than a mixture.
- Fresh pineapple juice is a different and far better proposition than canned.
- A lime wedge, which is not traditional and improves it considerably.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- vodka
- Deliberately quiet — it carries other flavors and dilutes without arguing.
- cranberry juice
- Only worth using unsweetened, and almost everything on the shelf is not.
- pineapple
- Sweet and aggressively acidic, and the raw fruit contains an enzyme that breaks down protein — useful in a marinade, ruinous in anything set with gelatin.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Cape Codder
Vodka and cranberry with a real squeeze of lime, which is the entire difference between this and a mixer over ice.
Shares vodka, cranberry juice
Sea Breeze
Cranberry and grapefruit over vodka. The grapefruit does the bittering that cranberry alone cannot.

Vodka cranberry
Vodka and cranberry, which lives entirely on the cranberry being unsweetened and a lime being squeezed into it.

Cosmopolitan
Vodka, Cointreau, fresh lime and a splash of cranberry. Made with fresh lime it is a genuinely good sour; made with bottled it is why it fell out of fashion.

The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
