easyWhy tonight. Apple and maple, not pie filling. Soda last.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- apple
- maple
- lemon
- soda
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: cinnamon.
Method
- Cloudy apple juice, maple and lemon, stirred until the maple disperses, then soda over ice.
- Maple is more assertive than honey, so use less of it than you would use honey.
- Lemon is doing real work here. Apple and maple are both sweet and low in acid and it is cloying without it.
- A cinnamon stick as a stirrer rather than ground cinnamon, which floats as grit and never dissolves.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- apple
- Sweet, acidic and firm, which is a rare combination — it holds its shape in a hot pan and cuts through fat on a cold plate.
- maple
- Sweetness with a mineral, slightly smoky edge that sugar does not have.
- lemon
- Acid you add at the end, not the start.
- soda
- Carbonation is a texture and it is the first thing you lose.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
