Gin and tonic
Highball arithmetic: one part gin to three of tonic, over more ice than looks necessary. A warm mixer is what ruins it, not the ratio.

easyWhy tonight. Highball arithmetic: one part gin to three of tonic, over more ice than looks necessary. A warm mixer is what ruins it, not the ratio.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- gin
- tonic
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: lime.
Method
- Tall glass packed to the top with ice — more than looks sensible, because a half-empty glass dilutes faster than a full one.
- 2 oz gin, then cold tonic poured down the side. Roughly one to three.
- One gentle lift with a spoon. Stirring a tonic drink is how it goes flat.
- Match the garnish to the gin rather than to habit: citrus for a juniper-forward classic, cucumber or pepper for a softer contemporary bottle.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- gin
- Botanicals over a neutral base, and every bottle draws its own map — juniper-forward gin makes a bracing drink, a softer modern one makes a floral one.
- tonic
- Bitter and sweet at once, so it is a mixer with an opinion.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Shares gin, tonic
Rosemary gin and tonic
One sprig, slapped. Don't turn the glass into a roast chicken.
Shares tonic
Amaro tonic
Amaro and tonic over plenty of ice. Two kinds of bitterness that turn out to soften each other.
Shares tonic
Aperol tonic
Lighter than a spritz and less sweet, because tonic brings its own bitterness. A good drink for a long afternoon.
Shares tonic
Chartreuse and tonic
Green Chartreuse over ice with tonic. The herbs come forward when they are stretched, and it is far easier to drink than it sounds.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
