Aperol tonic
Lighter than a spritz and less sweet, because tonic brings its own bitterness. A good drink for a long afternoon.

easyWhy tonight. Lighter than a spritz and less sweet, because tonic brings its own bitterness. A good drink for a long afternoon.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- aperol
- tonic
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: orange.
Method
- 2 oz Aperol over plenty of ice, topped with tonic rather than soda.
- Tonic brings quinine, which meets Aperol's orange bitterness instead of just diluting it. That is the whole reason to make this instead of a spritz.
- Orange slice, and a wine glass rather than a tall one so the aroma has somewhere to sit.
- Lower in alcohol than a spritz and better in daylight.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- aperol
- Bitter but gently, and sweeter and lower-proof than Campari, so it makes an afternoon drink rather than an evening one.
- tonic
- Bitter and sweet at once, so it is a mixer with an opinion.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Shares tonic
Amaro tonic
Amaro and tonic over plenty of ice. Two kinds of bitterness that turn out to soften each other.
Shares aperol
Aperol Spritz
Three parts prosecco, two Aperol, one soda, built over a full glass of ice. Too little ice is why yours goes warm and syrupy.
Shares tonic
Chartreuse and tonic
Green Chartreuse over ice with tonic. The herbs come forward when they are stretched, and it is far easier to drink than it sounds.
Shares tonic
Gin and tonic
Highball arithmetic: one part gin to three of tonic, over more ice than looks necessary. A warm mixer is what ruins it, not the ratio.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
