easyWhy tonight. Cuban stirred drink. Rum, dry vermouth, orange liqueur, a twist. Keep the vermouth cold.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- rum
- dry vermouth
- cointreau
- orange
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: angostura.
Method
- Aged rum, dry vermouth and Cointreau, stirred rather than shaken. It is a spirit-forward drink dressed as a tropical one.
- Grenadine is traditional in a bar spoon quantity and mostly for color; skip it rather than use the bottled kind.
- Stir it very cold, thirty seconds at least.
- Orange peel expressed over the top and dropped in. It is the most elegant rum drink there is.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- rum
- The widest spirit on the shelf.
- dry vermouth
- Wine, and it goes off like wine — the reason most home Martinis taste tired is a bottle that has sat open on a shelf since spring.
- cointreau
- Clean bitter orange with real sweetness behind it, so it does two jobs in a sour and lets you use less syrup.
- orange
- Sweeter and rounder than lemon and lime, so it softens rather than sharpens.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Next
Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
