Method

  1. Warm the sugar and lemon juice together just enough to dissolve, then take it off and drop the basil in to steep.
  2. Five minutes only. Basil goes bitter and tastes of hay if it sits in warm liquid longer than that.
  3. Strain it, chill it hard, then soda over ice.
  4. Basil and lemon is a better pairing than mint and lemon, and almost nobody makes it.
