easyWhy tonight. Sauce is peanut-lime. Tofu is the protein.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- tofu
- peanut butter
- lime
- rice
- soy sauce
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: cucumber.
Method
- Press the tofu properly and roast or fry it until the edges are genuinely gold. Soft tofu in a peanut bowl is texture-free.
- Loosen the peanut butter with hot water first, then lime and soy. In the other order it seizes into gravel.
- Sauce it just before serving — peanut sauce thickens as it cools and stops moving.
- Cucumber salted and drained first, and lime again at the table.

What the method is trying to make happen
Sequence, correction, heat and texture, equipment workarounds, scaling, and component reuse are available with this cook sheet.
An educational plan from a curated corpus. Not a nutrition, allergen, or doneness guarantee.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
The technique underneath this
Going wrong while you cook it? Say what it is doing and the triage will tell you what is happening, the smallest move, and the instinct to resist.

Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- tofu
- Texture is a decision, not a given.
- peanut butter
- Fat, salt and body all at once, which is why it thickens a sauce as it flavors it.
- lime
- Sharper and more floral than lemon, and it fades faster — juice it the same hour you use it.
- rice
- Starch that either steams or fries, and the two want opposite things.
- soy sauce
- Salt with a savory backbone, so it seasons and deepens in one move.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.
