Method

  1. 3 oz gin, 1 oz vodka, ½ oz Lillet. Shake — yes, shake, that was the whole point of the order.
  2. Strain up, thin strip of lemon peel expressed over it.
  3. Kina Lillet is gone and the modern bottle is far less bitter, so a dash of quinine bitters gets it closer to what the drink used to be.
  4. It is enormous. Serve it small and cold and do not build a second one.

Botanicals over a neutral base, and every bottle draws its own map — juniper-forward gin makes a bracing drink, a softer modern one makes a floral one.
vodka

Fortified and aromatized wine, lightly bitter and citrusy, and it is perishable like vermouth.
