What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- chicken
- sausage
- rice
- tomato
- onion
- celery
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: bell pepper, hot sauce.
Method
- Brown the sausage and chicken first and take them out. That fond on the base is where the color and depth come from.
- Trinity in the fat, then tomato cooked down, then rice stirred through until coated.
- Stock in, everything back on top, lid on, and then leave it alone. Stirring makes it gluey.
- Rest it ten minutes off the heat before forking through, and hot sauce at the table.

Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- chicken
- Two different foods depending on the cut.
- sausage
- Seasoned fat and meat that arrives pre-flavored, so it does double duty as protein and as the base a dish is built on.
- rice
- Starch that either steams or fries, and the two want opposite things.
- tomato
- Sweet, sour and savory at once, which is why it holds up so many dishes with no meat in them.
- onion
- The base under most of this library.
- celery
- Salinity and a bitter green edge, which is why it sits in so many bases without ever being the point.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Oyakodon
Parent and child: chicken and egg over rice. Soy-stock, lid on, don't overcook the eggs.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
