easyWhy tonight. Batter just to bind. The cabbage is the pancake. Mayo and heat at the table.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- cabbage
- eggs
- flour
- scallion
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: bacon, mayo.
Method
- Shred the cabbage fine and use far more of it than looks right. It is the body of the pancake, not a filling.
- Only enough batter to bind. Too much flour gives you a cabbage-flavored pancake instead of a cabbage cake.
- Do not press it flat in the pan. It should stay thick and loose so the middle steams while the outside crisps.
- Cook it low and slow, eight minutes a side, and flip it once with a plate rather than a spatula.

Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- cabbage
- Cheap, keeps for weeks, and completely different raw and cooked.
- eggs
- The cheapest way to turn a side dish into dinner.
- flour
- Thickener and structure. Raw flour tastes like paste, so it wants a minute of cooking in fat before liquid arrives — that minute is the difference between a sauce and a lumpy disappointment.
- scallion
- Two ingredients on one stalk.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.
