easyWhy tonight. The filling is an empanada. Cumin and paprika, a handful of olives. Fold in a tortilla if you have no pastry.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- beef
- onion
- cumin
- paprika
- tortillas
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: olives.
Method
- Cook the filling and cool it completely before it goes anywhere near pastry. Warm filling melts the fat and the pastry goes greasy.
- Cook it dry — a wet filling steams inside and bursts the seam.
- Cumin and paprika bloomed in the fat with the onion, olives chopped in at the end.
- Seal the edges properly, crimped, and cut a small vent. Fried or baked, both work.

What the method is trying to make happen
Sequence, correction, heat and texture, equipment workarounds, scaling, and component reuse are available with this cook sheet.
An educational plan from a curated corpus. Not a nutrition, allergen, or doneness guarantee.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
The technique underneath this
Going wrong while you cook it? Say what it is doing and the triage will tell you what is happening, the smallest move, and the instinct to resist.
Published minimums for what is in this
These are published minimums, not doneness preferences and not a verdict about any particular piece of food. Ground meat sits above whole cuts of the same animal because grinding moves the surface through the middle — the species is not the reason.

Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- beef
- Fat and connective tissue decide the method.
- onion
- The base under most of this library.
- cumin
- Earthy and slightly bitter, and it needs heat to open.
- paprika
- Color and a mild sweet pepper flavor, and it scorches into bitterness almost instantly.
- tortillas
- They want direct heat before they go anywhere near a plate.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
