easyWhy tonight. Eastern European weeknight. Brown the cabbage.
What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- pasta
- cabbage
- butter
- onion
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: cumin.
Method
- Cabbage shredded thin and cooked in a lot of butter over medium heat for twenty-five minutes, until it goes sweet and brown at the edges.
- Onion in with it from the start. Salt early so it gives up water and then cooks in butter rather than steam.
- Pasta cooked, drained wet, and tossed straight into the pan with a splash of its water.
- Black pepper, more butter, and that is the whole thing. It reads as nothing on paper and eats like something you would order.
An educational plan from a curated corpus. Not a nutrition, allergen, or doneness guarantee.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- pasta
- The sauce finishes on the pasta, not the other way around.
- cabbage
- Cheap, keeps for weeks, and completely different raw and cooked.
- butter
- Flavor and body in the same spoonful.
- onion
- The base under most of this library.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.

Nori butter noodles
Butter, soy and a sheet of nori toasted for two seconds and crumbled at the table. Strange on paper, and then you make it weekly.

Gochujang butter noodles
Whisk the paste into melted butter off the heat, because it catches and burns in a dry pan. It is sweet as well as hot — taste before adding more.

Goulash on noodles
Yesterday's goulash, buttered noodles, sour cream. The paprika should still taste sweet. Don't add more tomato.

Kimchi butter noodles
Pasta stands in. Kimchi is the sauce.

Cook it, then tell the shelf what you used.
The ranking is only as honest as the shelf behind it. Empty the cream, and everything that leaned on cream should stop being offered.
