What it needs
Nothing confirmed on your shelf yet — this list is the whole ask.
- vodka
- tomato
- lemon
- worcestershire
- hot sauce
Good if you have them, fine if you do not: celery, black pepper.
Method
- Build in the glass, not a shaker: 2 oz vodka, 4 oz tomato juice, ½ oz lemon, several dashes of Worcestershire, hot sauce, a lot of black pepper, a pinch of celery salt.
- Roll it between two tins rather than shaking — shaking aerates the tomato and turns it pink and frothy.
- Season it like food, because it is food. Taste it before it leaves the counter, every time.
- Horseradish is the ingredient most Bloody Marys are missing, and a half teaspoon changes the entire drink.
An educational pour, not a reprint of a licensed spec. No allergen or alcohol-safety claim.
Cook or pour it, then edit the shelf if you emptied a bottle or used the last of something.
Why each of these is on the list
What the ingredients are actually doing
- vodka
- Deliberately quiet — it carries other flavors and dilutes without arguing.
- tomato
- Sweet, sour and savory at once, which is why it holds up so many dishes with no meat in them.
- lemon
- Acid you add at the end, not the start.
- worcestershire
- Anchovy, tamarind and vinegar pretending to be a condiment.
- hot sauce
- Acid as much as heat, which is why it lifts a dish that already has chili in it.
Missing one of them? The substitutions are written against those jobs rather than against a chart, so they say what each replacement costs this dish in particular.
